Here’s an interesting article by Linda Brenner who gives an alternate perspective on the use of social media in recruiting. Brenner recently met with a recruiter friend and found that his days were filled with posting jobs, waiting for applicants and a host of menial social media tasks while things like sourcing passive candidates, making cold calls, conducting in-depth interviews and using recruiting software to streamline the whole process were missing completely. I think Brenner hits the nail on the head with her assessment that leveraging technology and social media is a skill that needs to be honed and that recruiters need to be trained to use social media in a way that enhances the recruiting process.
